But how exactly do they power high-speed Internet with such vast capacity?
Fiber Optic
Submarine cables that form the backbone of global communications generally use fiber optics. This material is made of very thin glass or plastic, enabling data exchange over light waves. The difference between fiber optic cables and other types lies in their much greater speed and capacity for long-distance data transmission.
High-Speed Data Transmission
The ability of submarine cables to transmit data at terabyte-per-second scale demonstrates their superiority. Leveraging innovations such as Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), hundreds to thousands of light wavelengths can be transmitted simultaneously through a single fiber, dramatically increasing bandwidth capacity to support broader digital access. Similar to a high-speed toll road, DWDM ensures smoother, more efficient data flow across global networks.

Biznet Expands Reliable Connectivity with Submarine Cable Development
As digitalization accelerates, reliable and high-speed connectivity is no longer optional, it is essential. Biznet meets this need through the Biznet Nusantara Cable System (BNCS), a submarine fiber optic cable that opens opportunities for equitable access and connects Indonesia to the world. BNCS-1 has successfully linked Java, Sumatra, and Bangka, Biznet is now moving forward expanding its connectivity with BNCS-2, extending its network that connects Java, Bali, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. In March 2025, Biznet also activated a submarine fiber optic network across Java, connecting cities like Jakarta – Cirebon – Semarang – Surabaya to strengthen service reliability and increase bandwidth capacity between cities on Java Island.
